College Scholarships For Veterans Knowledge Base
McCain and Obama on financial aid for veterans? I can't find any detailed information on the bill that Obama and McCain are disagreeing upon. All I can find is that the bill would provide college scholarships to veterans, but it doesn't go into to detail. All the articles really talks about is what McCain and Obama had to say about each other. Does any know where I can find more detailed information about this bill? So Avail, does this bill cover those who have already served? because that would be great. Obama might win my support in November on this issue.
Can the average student easily get scholarships for college? Or does the average student give up and get loans (public or private)? It seems that there is a lot of jumping through hoops to get a scholarship for college. And for the ones out there, it seems like they are only available to a limited class such as children of Vietnam veterans. Yet millions of dollars go unclaimed each year. Is finding a scholarship more like a job search, where an X amount of hours needs to be spent to obtain an X amount of dollars?
College costs (disabled veteran assistance)? my quesiton is, my daughter is about to attend college in september, along with her tuition assistance, does colleges have scholarships or some sort of asistance available for me since my father is a disabled american veteran, and if so, how do i apply for such a assistance? please help
Are there any legitimate scholarships out there for veterans families? My husband is attending Ozark Technical college for his second year and is able to go thanks to my military service. He is also a champva patient if that has any bearing. I have been looking online for grants and scholarships and have only run into scams. Are there any veterans or military spouses or kids who get any other funds for school?
Is there a scholarship for veterans work? I am a serious and devoted advocate for veterans and i do a lot of volunteer services for the vets. Im just wondering if there is a scholarship available for students going into there first year of college, in seriouse need of financial aid and who has a lot of veterans experiance. Are there any scholarships available for Korean War Veteran descendants? I am going into my senior year in high school and want to go to college after that. I ran across a scholarship for descendants of Vietnam veterans, but I don't have any Vietnam veterans in my family. But my grandfather did serve in the USMC during the Korean War, and fought in some gruesome battles like Chosin Reservior. Also, my uncle served in the Army Special Forces, but I don't think he was ever in combat. So are there any special scholarships available for me? Wrf3k: Lots of people get scholarships for having the right ancestors. It's cruel, but that's the way the college world works. Look at all the minority scholarships out there. What is American Legion? I've never heard of it, so I haven't participated. Otherwise, it looks like a cool scholarship.

Veterans Scholarship? Help? My first Semester of college just ended. I have a North Carolina State Scholarship and a Chapter 35 Scholarship. My father was in Vietnam. Anyway, I have a small learning disability and also a serve anxiety disorder which I have a 504 plan for but I had to get in re-newed after high school which my psychologist took a long time writing because he was busy. I wasn't aloud to use my plan because my professors didn't have the letter renewal from my psychologist. While this was going on my psychologist also took me off my addarall (sp) for trying out different medicines for my ADD. I couldn't concentrate at all and I didn't have my plan for taking tests. What it comes down to is I got F,F,D,C first semester. If you are familiar with the scholarships you have to keep a C average. Is there any way I can keep my scholarships under these conditions? What can I do? I need my scholarships. It isn't like I slacked off. I really did try, you have noooo clue how hard I tried. If anyone is familiar with these scholarships can you please help me? Thank you in advance. God Bless. Merry Christmas.
Veteran paying for college education.? Alright So I am an Army Veteran. I was wounded overseas awarding me the purple heart. I am now in the national guard beginning school again. I am currently utilizing my Federal Tuition Assistance and GI Bill, but you vets know that just doesn't cut it. I would just like to know the types of scholarships and grants that may be available to me as a veteran. I'm sure there are scholarships/grants out there for a purple heart as well. I'm just sitting here pinching pennies..not even pinching... I have these pennies in head locks trying to finance this semester of school. So if there are other veterans around that know of anything that may be beneficial to me. Or if you aren't a veteran but you know something please help me out. thanks
Help for the middle class funding college? Could anyone help me find scholarship or grants? My mom makes to much money to qualify for anything in the FASFA, even some student loans. But she doesn't have enough money to help me with college. Since I'm not over 25, married, or a veteran I have to include her income. I live 3 hours away from her and am definitely no longer a dependent but I don't qualify for anything because I have to use her income. I’ve tried going through the schools financial aid department and they all tell me that I don’t qualify. If I can, I would like to find something I don’t have to pay back, any suggestions?
Child of disabled veteran scholarship? I am a child of 2 disabled veterans and I know that children of veterans (at least in the state of California, don't know about other places) get their tuition paid for. However, I am also married. I was wondering if anyone had any evidence that says a married child of a disabled veteran couldn't apply for this grant. Or is it still acceptable? I am still under 21, and can hardly afford to pay for college. just wondering if this grant could still apply to me. Thanks!
disabled veterans, can we pass our college allotments to our kids? im a 20pct military veteran, disabled veteran and when i was discharged formt he navy,i was told i was allowed a free scholarship thru college, but with my kids i had to work to make sure they were able to complete there scholling, now that they are are about proceed to college, i am wondering if i can pass that scholarship to my kids now? does anyone know that answer?
Did Barack Hussein Obama Jr. ever register for the draft? Just four years a go a lot of Democrats, including Senator Kerry, told me that being a veteran of combat was the single most important qualification for President. Today we have a bona fide combat veteran John McCain running, and the number of Democrats supporting him are few and far between. In fact the candidate they now support with the same fervor they did Kerry is not even a veteran of non combat duty. Has it ever been established the he even registered for the draft? I know when my son applied for scholarships to college he signed a piece of paper allowing the university to register him for the draft, so I was wondering if Obama had to do the same thing. After all, we can't have a draft dodger be Commander in Chief, can we?
Joining the Army for college money- is it worth it? I'm seventeen, and a student pilot. I love flying. I eventually want to fly for an airline. For a time, I was looking at two schools- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Daniel Webster College. ERAU has a total fee of nearly $53,000 per year. DWC costs around $38,000 per semester. Both of these schools cost so much due to the expensive hands-on flight training. My father is 64 and retired. My mother is in her mid-fifties, and is making $30,000 - 35,000 per year. I know they can't afford for me to go to either college. My father is already in debt from sending my two older brothers to college. I doubt the bank will lend him another plus-loan, as old and as in-debt as he is. I've looked at scholarships, but we're talking about a grand total of anywhere from $120,000 - 210,000 for my entire education. Recently I've been looking at the benefits that the Army has to offer. I've been told that if I choose Aviation Operations as my "career choice" upon enlisting in the Army, then I'll be tagging along with a helicopter 24/7, getting to know the thing inside and out. And after two years or so, I can apply for a Warrant Officer position. For the next two years after that, if I'm promoted to Warrant Officer, I'll get to fly choppers. And at the end of my four-year term, I'll be able to receive up to $80,000 for my college education. Which is nearly half of my total fees. So it's nothing to laugh at. Is the Army worth it, in terms of its benefits? Having grown up in a small town where nothing exciting ever happened, I'm starting to look forward to what I suspect is adventure and travel. But so far, all I've heard are stories of 22 year-olds coming back from Iraq with severe psychological problems, or with a sense of complete alienation for everything they used to know. I'm looking for answers from soldiers and veterans of the army, with true-to-life experience. No BS posers. What is your stance on the U.S. Army? Could I return from four years of service and not be any different? Or would I get messed up? I always have alternate options. I could go with a cheaper flight school, but I really like the idea of attending a school where United States astronauts are trained. Embry-Riddle is the leader in higher education in all aeronautical fields of study, and I'm just that kind of guy who always aspires to be the best. I could get student loans and work a few years before going to college. Even if I enlist and get military training, I still want to go to college- to fly fixed-wing aircraft. In the Army, I'll be flying helicopters, and that will amount to good military flight time, but you can see why I will still want to go to Embry-Riddle or Daniel Webster, even after I've gotten great training in the Army. Thanks for reading, sorry my question is so long, and thanks to all who answer in advance.

Performing Arts College Questions...? I'm going to be a Freshman in Highschool in Oregon this coming fall. I know it is early to be planning for college(so says my parents, but to bad) At the moment I plan to study hard in high school, and want to get straight A's, with maybe one or two B's each year.I plan on being HEAVILY involved with my school Drama Program.I did not have a chance to auditions for this year's main musical but am in Group Musical, and my high school has taken 1st for 2 years in a row at state, and we plan on doing it again. What is needed to apply at the University of South Florida for those with a GED and will I have enough time? If all goes well I hope to start taking classes at USF in the fall. I just need to know if I'll be able to meet the deadline which is March 1st. First I have to take and pass the GED on the 21st of January, then I have to take the ACT on the 7th of February while applying for grants and loans. I also have a disability(missing left hand) and my Mom's a retired veteran of the Air Force and she was telling me about some income I'll be getting if I'm in School. I really just need to know what scholarships and loans I'm eligible for and if I'll be able to get my Test(s) results and other stuff done in time to apply for school at USF. If I'm not able to then I'll do a semester at my community college and transfer. Thanks for any help. National Guard or ROTC scholarship? I spoke with a recruiter yesterday at my school (with my ROTC Sgt. and Chief in the same room) and Sgt. Owens (the recruiter) asked me what I planned on doing after high school. I said that I was planning on getting an ROTC scholarship. He responded by saying that I would make more money if I joined The Guard instead. Is this because of the fact that they pay for your schooling and they pay you as long as your on active duty? Also your given the rank of Second Lieutenant upon graduation of college ROTC. You would alot more money as a Lieutenant than you would a private. Is there any Veterans on here or at least other recruiters that would agree with Sgt. Owens or say that I should go with the Scholarship instead? well then what would you propose?
Issue of one and done players in college basketball? In my opinion, I feel that the NBA should get rid of their age restricting rules keeping players from making the jump from high school to the NBA. Some reasons why: One and done players are really destroying team chemistry of college teams. Note that both North Carolina and Michigan State this year had a team built of veteran players that have played with each other for a number of years. Not a team of five star freshmen recruits who are going to leave their team after one year Next it really is the player's decision to decide whether or not he is ready to make the jump into the NBA from high school. If he feels he doesn't need a college education why give up a full ride scholarship for him when there is another player who will be more than happy to take the opportunity of a full ride the second it is offered. if a person can go to war at age 18 why can't he play in the NBA? By getting rid of the rule we get rid of all this controversy spurring up over players receiving illegal money or players cheating on SAT or any other big tests to make the grade. what's your take on this issue of one and done players in college basketball yes that is true education is an issue but soldiers know that going into a war there's the risk they might DIE the player should also know that just because you make it in the NBA, it doesn't mean you're going to be a star and that you might end up being a bust or get a career ending injury. but yet soldiers still get get to make the decision while these hs recruits don't. life is full of risks also if a player is able to have some sort of career in the NBA, it's more than likely that he will have a butt load of cash over his career, the average salary of a rookie is still a couple million. that's more than enough money for a player to go back to college and finish his education after his career
Can a 14 year old refuse to attend a 2-week psychiatric program in favor of going to school to preserve grades? The subject is a straight A student and Freshman in public high school and a speed-reader who shuns television in favor of reading books which she does avidly. She is normally mild mannered, considerate, polite, kind to the underprivledged, and charming to those who know her. In her home environment, however, she has a very aggressive, foul-mouthed older sister (age 19) who is into pot and alcohol and who performed in the lower 25% of her class and was given to highly disrespectful behavior. The subject also has a mother who is prone to hitting, hair pulling, screaming and uncontrolled outbursts of profanity. In this environment, the subject is sometimes drawn in when attacked and will resort to profanity and yelling back in an effort to defend herself. The mother also has a paramour of over 5 years who is head of their shared household but with no custodial rights over the subject or desire to take on responsibility for any of the 3 children under his roof, given that he has 3 of his own out of state from a previous marriage. Based on prolonged complaining by the paramour and a recent episode where all parties engaged in yelling and profanity, the mother has decided the problem must be with the mild-mannered 14 year old with straight A's since she and the eldest daughter were never able to perform at that level in school. So the mother is PULLING the subject OUT OF SCHOOL for an intensive 2-week psychiatric outpatient program (6 hours per day) at a critical time academically, right before semester finals. The subject is willing to submit to evaluation and counseling but wants to do so at a better time so she can focus instead on making good grades in her finals in hopes of maintaining a high GPA that will put her in better stead for a college scholarship. The subject in no way is a danger to herself or others and there is no psychological crisis going on at the moment. But in an effort to justify her decision to take radical action at this time, the mother is now painting her daughter as having "serious psychiatric problems" -- which prior to the latest meltdown where the mother attacked and beat the subject in an angry rage -- were nonexistant and never mentioned by the mother or apparent in any behavioral reports from the subjects teachers. At 14, a minor gains some additional discretion over who they can choose to live with, i.e. their mother or their father. They also have more rights in other areas. My question here is whether the subject can refuse to participate in this intensive 2-week psychiatric program in favor of attending school at this time to protect her GPA and class standing. Or can the custodial mother FORCE the child to not attend school and go into this psychiatric program which was never ordered by the hospital or any doctor she was seeing. To this point, the child has not seen any mental health practitioner on a regular basis, nor did anyone (outside of the paramour who is not a family member) believe that such counseling was even necessary. Can the 14-year old legally stand up for herself to make the more rational decision to not enter this psychiatric program right at this time and in favor of attending school to prepare for and to take her finals? This would be in the state of Illinois. The non-custodial father with full, unsupervised visitation rights lives out of state but is very active in trying to support the child and to gain custody which earlier this past week before the idea of the psychiatric program was formulated by the mother, had been offered to the father by the mother as a possible solution. But instead of relinquishing child support and custody, the mother has chosen to characterize the child as having "serious psychiatric problems" which the mother intends to address via the psychiatric program (paid for by the mother's health insurance policy), and quite possibly, psychotropic drugs if she can convince the doctors they are necessary, supposedly based on behavior in the home not observed by the doctors. The mother does not have a 4 year college degree and is noted by many to be a pathological liar with symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder as well as Hysterical Personality Disorder, as observed by a veteran psychiatrist and mental health clinical director of many years. So can the 14 year old legally refuse psychiatric treatment at this particular time and stay in school instead? It should also be noted that the subject's mother has repeatedly refused to undergo psychiatric evaluation or counseling herself and via her lawyer has argued successfully in court that to do so might compromise her own constitutional rights. This is a program designed by the Behaviorial Sciences area of a county hospital. It was not custom designed for any one patient. But it is a revenue center for the hospital. Admittance into the program can be voluntary by the patient or via direction by the custodial parent who will pay for the program via their health insurance policy. My sense is that one may not need to have serious psychiatric problems in order to attend. If one merely has symptoms of anxiety, they can be admitted. But it is also my hope that the doctors will quickly recognize that this child does not have serious psychiatric problems and that this was more about the mother's idea than the child's actual need. Again, the mother is under scrutiny now for abusive parenting so she has a need to shift the blame now to the children.
ROTC & MP Officer questions? I am curently a sophmore in High School. I plan on applying for a ROTC scholarship next year. I know that I plan on going to college (hopefully by a ROTC Scholarship) and upon graduatin ROTC I want to train to be a Military Police Officer. I wish to know if I would be able to train as a linguist along with being a Military Police Officer? Not necesarilly be both but I mean having another language taught to me such as German. Would I be able to do this? Also if anyone knows about ROTC Scholarships I would like to know if I have a good chance of getting one with the information I'm providing. I am in JROTC at my school. This is my first year in JROTC and I am on everything we have to offer. I was selected by my Sergeant to be in the Sabre Salute (part of our Veterans Day ceremony) at our school. I am on the Colourguard, Drill Team, Rifle Team, Raiders, and I provide a community service by parking cars at football and basketball games. Also I took part in the Honor Guard as I stated earlier. My GPA however is 2.57, but is gradually rising. Any answers are welcome... Thank you for your time My apologies.... I should have added more detail. I am looking for an Army ROTC scholarship (I'm in Army JROTC) but I wouldn't mind receiving a NROTC scholarship
Expected Family Contribution of 18,000?!? Hello; my EFC was a bit over $18,000 per year. It almost seems crazy, because my dad only makes about $68,000 a year. My mom took a job up last summer and worked for 5 months, making about $8,500 extra (we needed the money for my dad's back surgery). She was laid off when the branch of the company she worked for closed here, but only worked for five months (not eligible for unemployment). My school's estimated cost of attendance is only about $16,000 per year. My dad is a veteran; he receives benefits for me and my two siblings (close to $800 per month). We have a house worth approximately $70,000 (we don't own it though), own two cars worth about $4,000 each, and have a total of $700 in savings. My parents are in little debt, maybe $1,500. I am the first to go to college; I am also being given about $8,000 in scholarships. I am also working a full-time job for 2 months this summer. I still have a deficit of about $8,000 dollars - way over what I can take out in loans. My school has requested evidence of my mom's unemployment. Will this change anything? Also, does this number seem way too high for my situation? I know my dad makes decent money, but we have had to help out family on both sides lately. We have a total of five people living in the house as well. It just doesn't seem right. Not to brag or anything - seriously - but i've gotten great grades. 3.7 unwt 4.3 wt 8th in my class and an ACT score of 31. i've also had great extracurricular activities/leadership positions for the past four years. And yet at this point, I may have run out of options. INPUT, please. :/ i'm desperate!
My dad is a Vietnam War veteran. Might I be able to get a scholarship because of this? My dad served for two years in the Marine Corps working as an aviation engineer and did combat in the Vietnam War. He was released on honorable discharge for his two years of service in 67. He is currently 67 years old and had a stroke three weeks ago. He is incapable of speaking but, he can read, write, and move around okay. I have copies of important documents and photos. My dad is NOT a member of any group or organization (such as VVA - Vietnam Veterans of America) because he is a funny and stingy old man that does not feel he should have to pay money to be a part of an organization - HIS word-choice ---- NOT MINE. I will have a 2.9-something G.P.A. from a 3.0 this next semester. I am 23 years old and a theatre major at a state university. About to complete my first semester at the university. (worked a semester, went to a community college a semester.... it took time. I am now officially non-traditional - yuck.) Will be prepared to proove financial need as well. I have searched, but maybe someone out there knows something I do not. Might I be able to get a scholarship because I am a child of a Vietnam War Vet? (again- he is not a member of the VVA) ????????????????????? I am with Scholarships.com and Fastweb and several other sites. No spam, please. I am asking because I have already searched and most scholarships require that your parent be a member of an organization or group. My father is not. Read above for the reasoning if it is confusing. Thanks. No spam, seriously.
Do we need two presidents and two budgets .? One president to run the nation and one president to run the world . Let the tax payer choose which one to fund . That neither can simply print money to fund its objectives or create a debt to be paid in the future . They must go before the people and ask for the money . People donated millions to NYC after 9-11 happened and the people have the right to fund the projects they want . Small budgets to all departments with an eye towards scaling them back . I do not see why its not possible to create a single payer system in which private companies bid and provide all our services . From the department of Agriculture to Veteran Affairs . Local colleges could provide the people and resources to manage everything in return for low interest loans and scholarships . Students today are mobile and hands on experience is the best teacher anyhow . Get out in the fields and factories we have left and test the soil and the beef and do product safety experiments .
Reverse Racism… or Chronic Whiners Syndrome? NAACP: National Association for the Advancement of Colored People United N*gro College Fund I’m an Irish-American, are any of these organizations going to help me? And why won’t they help me? Is it the color of my skin, is it my ethnic background? I grew up in Inner City Chicago, family had little to no money, we survived on veterans benefits and Social Security after my father died why couldn’t I get a scholarship from the United N*gro College Fund? And why didn’t the NAACP chase them for turning me down based on color or ethnicity? OK next thing, Ebony Magazine or Black Entertainment Television, if I started an Ivory Magazine or White Entertainment Television how long would it take the ACLU (American Criminals, sorry Civil Liberties Union) to shut me down? Now don’t take me wrong, I AM NOT RACIST. And I am also not white. I’m of Irish decent and my skin is a nice olive color, white is the color of printer paper. Aren’t we all colored? If we pealed our skin off (continued below) If we pealed our skin off, we would all look the same, a bloody mess. I’m not saying one race or another does the poor me; give me money, because I have seen people of all colors do it. I think we need to get off our butts as a collective society of Americans, not hyphenated Americans, and help the good old US of A. Get every one who wants one, a job, not outsource them to other countries! Let’s get everyone who wants an education, an education. Let’s not bitch because a small town in Texas changes the zoning laws that raises property values but makes it difficult for low income minorities to buy a house. If you can’t afford something work harder to get it, don’t steal it, and stop b*tching! I’m was a kid from a low income family in Inner City Chicago, I joined the military and went to war for my college money, and now at 40 years of age I am starting my next career, one I worked for not got handed to me. Just my opinion, what's yours?
