College Scholarships For Adults Knowledge Base
Where can I find adult college scholarships? I am going back to college to complete the second half of my undergraduate (at 27 years old). I have a well paying job as of now, but as many people - my expenses take up a large portion of my income. I have looked at the basic scholarship search engines (FastWeb), etc.. but have really not found anything for adult students. Can anybody point me in the right direction, or throw me any advice? Thank you in advance.
Are there academic scholarships for adults in college? I was in an accelerated program at an accredited private college in NY state. I haven't finished, (took a leave of absence for a few months) and will be returning asap. My average when I stopped was a 3.85. I'm a 29 year old female non traditional student; hence the accelerated program... Are there scholarships that I can apply for because of my gpa, or others available to people like me? I'm desperate!!! I actually found some interesting information on my own while waiting for some answers... so anyone who comes across this who has the same question... check out this link.... http://www.ocssral.colostate.edu/ral/documents/Scholarships%20Adult%20%20Nontraditional.092104.doc
Can adults re-entering college receive scholarships, or are they just for students just out of H.S.? I've been out of school for 23 years and was wondering how I can obtain any scholarships for re-entering college. I'm now able to go through the Dept. of Labor and am exploring my other options once that runs out. I've been out of school for 23 years and was wondering how I can obtain any scholarships for re-entering college. I'm now able to go through the Dept. of Labor because I've been laid off from my job, and am exploring my other options once that runs out.
I am a part-time, adult college student. Where can I find reliable scholarships for my situation? I work full-time, attend college part-time and am able for the time being to receive a pell grant. I'd like to start taking more classes (which the grant may not cover) and am wondering if there are scholarships out there that cater to the "adult, part-time student" who needs help with books, classes, etc... I know there are scholarships out there that no one ever applies for, but I don't trust a lot of the online websites.
Is there any way to find decent scholarships for Adults? I am trying to find decent scholarship programs. I have been out of high school for quite some time now. I don't qualify for a Pel Grant. I don't want student loans, those seem to be the only options that colleges have for working adults. I just want to find a decent scholarship or grant program, that will help me with school. I am not currently enrolled in school. I plan to enroll as soon as I know that I will have the funds available.

Scholarships for current college students? Most of the ones I find are for high school students or students under 18 and it's annoying. I'm trying to find scholarships for current students/adults. fastweb is the one that turns out all of the scholarships for seniors in high school.
I need HELP!! Applying for college scholarships! Can you help reword it and make it sound alot better :)? When I reach the day of graduating my post secondary education at (my college) I will not only use the things I learned to help benefit myself, I will also be trying to help out the next generation of kids and adults in the obesity crisis that has become a big problem across Canada. While listening to the news one day, and while listening, I heard a very disturbing statisitc and it was that 12.6% of kids will not live past there parents! I then relaized something needs to done. I came to the realization that I would be the person to help reduce the obesity rise, starting in Ontario! I will start with the physcial activity and how there needs to be more in highschool, then carry onto my business venture Knowing that our future kids may not live past us, doesn’t give me a warm feeling. Canada has done so much for me in my life at the moment, from health care, to schooling. I feel that, its time to give back to the wonderful country and its society.

Where can you find adult scholarships? I'm planning on going back to college and am looking for scholarships/grants for adult students as I already have a B.A. and am ineligible for aid at my college. Any help?
How do you pay for college as an adult w/out getting student loans? I'd like to go back to college - but dag gone college is expensive! How on earth can you afford to go back to college as an adult w/out going into debt with student loans? I've tried to find scholarships but it's hard. And the FAFSA does nothing for me - they don't consider me "poor enough" to get any help. And heck I could probably pay for college if I had no other expenses FAFSA! Anyway, are there any people here who have gone back to college as an adult? How did you do it financially?
Can I get financial aid to pay for my bills as well as college as an adult? I'm returning to school to fininsh my degree. I'd like to go full time to finish quickly, but I would need to have enough financial aid to pay for my bills as well as tuition. I can't live on campus because I have a home. Has anyone else out there essentially taken out enough aid in scholarships, grants and loans to be able to pay for college and live too?
where can i find grants or scholarships for middle aged adult? I would like to find grants or scholarships to take college classes in the evenings. I'm a full time working, married mother of two kids. Does any one have any ideas or advice? What about the online classes has anyone ever got a accredited degree from a school worth investing all that money into?
Whats one thing you wish you never would have done? I wish I would have never acted the way i did in high school. If i would have stopped trying to fit in I would have been a A student on the top 10% and would have gotted scholarships to college. Now Im an adult having to pay for college, a car, insurance and everything else on my own. With the scholarships I would have saved myself I lot of trouble.
How do I apply to college when I got my high school diploma through Faulkner college? I dropped out of high school the last part of my Senior year and later attended Faulkner Community College's Adult Education program to receive my Alabama High School Diploma. Make no mistake, this is not a GED. It is the same thing as a regular high school diploma just without my high school's name on it. All i received when I completed the courses was the decorative high school diploma in the plastic casing. I'm in the process of wanting to apply for scholarships, grants, and colleges that require transcripts and want to know what high school I graduated from. My question is how do I go about this with the way I acquired my diploma? Has anyone been through this process or perhaps is a school counselor or something? Did the college notify my high school of my receiving the diploma and it would show up on my transcripts or what? Sorry kinda long THANKS! =D
Any advice from parents/young adults that have been through it? Im probably going to ask this in the education section again, but I wanted some advice from parents that have been through it with a teenager of theirs. Im a sophmore in highschool planning on going to college. Im filling out scholarships and applications. I was wondering if anybody has any advice for the teenagers that are going through this. Just general advice, I dont care if its about room and board, tuition, scholarships, SAT, making friends, its whatever. Thanks.
How old do I have to be to get into college without the ACT? I was told by a professor of the state college here that at a certain age your considered an "adult learner" and do not have to take the ACT to get into college necessarily, but it may exempt me from some scholarships etc. Is this true and what age do I have to be? Despite the answers below, I still understand the ACT is not REQUIRED for a degree, as I understood it from some people at my state college. So if anyone has information on colleges like this and the minimum age, please answer.

I need a good title for this story!!!!!!! 10 EASY POINTS!!!? What do you think of this story? An Iranian mother moves with herself and two daughters (Azadeh and Jaleh) to dearborn, michigan. she never really settles in, and hates the fact that her daughters aren't growing up "Iranian". After twelve years in America, mom is fed up. She's almost always grumpy and stressed-out. She leaves for the grocery store on one particularly bad day and has a heart attack at the wheel. She drives her car into a light pole, and dies. The daughters (12 and 16) are put into foster care until Azadeh (18) becomes a legal adult. then, she takes Jaleh (14) and gets into a college on scholarships. That is basically the background for the story. Then, Azadeh (25) gets hit by a car while crossing the road, and is pronounced brain-dead. Jaleh (21) signs the papers to have Azadeh's heart donated. When Jaleh eventually meets the family of the little girl who received Azadeh's heart, she finds out that they are as "un-Iranian" as a family can be. She know s that this is a racist statement, but she also knows that her mother would be mortified. the fact that her oldest daughter's heart is working inside an "American" girl would give her a second heart attack. The family invites Jaleh to stay with them, saying that she is almost like a sister to their daughter. The rest of the story is just about Jaleh finally accepting that she has lost the roots of her Iranian heritage, but it must be carried on, even though she is living far, far away from The Homeland.
why is it who work there way through college get the shaft? i'm an adult student and i wrk full time just to support myself, mean while i dont qualify for pell grants etc. and atm moment i dont qualify for a scholarship becuase i work and make money. im not concidered in need. some people have told me to study more and raise my grades. i make decent grades but not high enough for scholarship do to all the time i put in to work. i avg 4-6 hours of sleep during a normal simister. what i dont get is in now live in TN and go to school here. and students who graduate highschool get a free schalorship for college and dont have to work and get free ride. but those of us strugling to support are selfs get turned down because we work. SHOULDN"T THERE BE A SCHOLARSHIP ? GRANTS FOR THOSE OF US THAT WORK ARE WAY THROUGH SCHOOL? those that wrk need loans but those fresh out of highschool dont thats BS we are not asking for a free ride, we dont need money to support us but grant money instead of loans for hard working studnets who work would be great...
is there anything that caters to adults who want to go back to school college full time? (loans, grants etc)? I am really interested in going back to school. It is inevitable, a college education is minimally required for most decent jobs, especially in CA. I work full time. I make $24/hr doing a very tedious and stressful job. I cry almost everyday when it is time to go to work. I can not see myself doing this job too much longer. I am considering quitting and sacrificing the highest paying job I have ever had in order to further my education. (deferred gratification) I just do not know the first thing about how I will finance my education. Unfortunately I have no savings. I am single , no children or major responsiblities. I could relocate if necessary. My goal is to pursue my education FULL time. Can anyone suggest the best route to take for obtaining the information I need. And now, the "stupid question"....Is it necessary that I get a job at all while going to college, or can I live like some students out of high school, off of loans and scholarships? Is cost of living included ?
Can you read my essay and tell me what do you think? do I have mistakes? Is it organized well ? and what kind of example i can give to cover all these aspects? Young adults get benefits by serving their country. They receive free educational scholarships and grants to attent college or another post-secondary institution. They can also get free health insurance which includes payments to physicians, dentists, and hospitals. Similarly, they get financial support so they don't have to pay taxes. Young adults get experience of a lifetime. They experience things that we never thougth possible and go places most people only read about. They make difference for themselves, family and nation. For instance.....
Adult ADD college question.? I have recently been diagnosed with adult add. yeah it sucks. My college has a department for disabilities. What do they actually do? I don't want to be labeled as having mental issues. Does anyone know it it is possible to get scholarships to help with this disability? I feel so awkward right now. My dr. put me on straterra and provigil, i can see a lil difference but not much. Thanks for all your help!!
Is it possible to develop ADHD when you become an adult? I'm a college student and I can't focus anymore on learning. I've always got first prize at all competitions in high school and at college I have a scholarship. But for a while now, I can't even finish a phrase from my course when I read it. I can't stay still and read. When I drink coffee I get hyper, like I can't stand still. I always have to listen to music, I can't stand silence. I'm not smoking and never did.
Is this possible for a non High school graduate? My girlfriend's sister who isn't doing well in high school got pregant and is now attending adult school. Well I don't know if she's going to get a diploma or not but she's a junior and she says that she is going to be attending a college. To me I don't think that's possible. However she blabs and blabs on and on about going and become a nurse. Well good for her but she's forgetting the steps you need to take to get there you can't just skip and expect good things to turn out. She says that she will be getting financial aid and scholarships okay but she a junior in highschool and don't have a dipolma yet.

Why do adults say that their business is not the business of the child? my father just quit his job, my mother doesn't work, and the two has a household to run. when i got upset about the whole situation my dad said that it is none of my business what they do. how is it none of my business if i live in the house and i am the one that has to suffer due to lack of money. i really got upset because i start my freshman year of college in the fall and am afriad that i wont be able to afford it even if i do work. not everyone is blessed with a scholarship. i cant wait to leave this hell hole. maybe i am wrong to get upset about the situation.i was only thinking about myself. but im tired of always going through my dad quiting his jobs just because he doesn't like working.
Do you have to go to college to become a registered nurse? I am turning 16 in march and getting ever so close to adult hood and i am unprepared. I do not know what i would want or be able to do with my life, but i know becoming a nurse is the only logical option and a career that for sure won't be wiped out because of a bad economy. i do not want to be a nurse but this is my only option. both of my parents are nurses and you should obviously be able to tell from that, the pressure they put on us kids to do something great with our lives, not be failures, and most of all, be nurses like them. my mother worked at a nursing home and they put her through nursing school, but she also went to college so i am told, and so did my dad. the pressure they are putting on is amazingly painful and stressful. so apparently i have to go to college but i do not feel that it is in the cards for me i am even looking up scholarships but im just in the dark here... i have no help, i really need them to sit and talk with me about my future, and really map it out not just tell me i have to do this and or that. its not working this way and im miserably stressed - im 15 i dont know what the hell i am doing. aside from believing college is not in the cards for me, i really do not want to go not just based on fears either, it really is not for me and i also for one do not want to spend my life being hounded by creditors, paying off 40,000 dollar debts because of college and having bad credit, not being able to buy a house or car, living paycheck to paycheck, no matter how money is in that paycheck it still doesn't add up when you have to spend it all on bills.i want to live my life secure. basically the question is, since i can't get any of this cleared up because my parents are too busy in their lives, do i have to go to college first to become a nurse or would it work to just work at the nursing home that my mother worked in when i get out of high school and have them help put me through nursing school? if it's able to work that way then things will be...a lot better... if not then i am royally screwed... ok if you are wondering, my reasons for not wanting to go to college other than having money problems are for the fact that i will not get in, my grades are not the best, i am a low to middle B student, college's are not looking for the average, two school and I are not the best of friends, some subjects worse than others so what is the point of going if i flunk out, 3 how the hell am i going to pay for it i am not a winner, i rarely win things and i know enough to realize that i am not the brightest person, i was looking at the scholarships and these are things i would most likely bomb at. and who ever chooses to comment on this, please realize this is not a confidence issue this is reality and i need some1 to buckle down and be real with me. my mom is always for the patronizing and briana your so smart so pretty you can do everything yada yada what the fck ever i need truth i need reality i need someone to level with me and help me out here even if it has to be a complete stranger on the internet. they are not being real with me at all, the reality of the matter is i still have to get into college and scholarships and acceptance to the college themselves are not sure things. money is a big issue in this day and age...you can't do much of anything without it... things aren't as easy as people make them appear, some1 plz be real with me, help a stranger out, i'll be eternally grateful....my future is at stake...i don't want to be a bum and even if it doesn't fall that far i don't want to live the hard times i've seen people in my family live. i've gotta get prepared and im not at all... my brother seems to think its ok for me just to wait to START getting ready for life when i turn 18 and graduate but man i've got to be on the move that will not be my life, and i will not be bumming off of anyone, i refuse lead a tragic life. i'll learn from family member's mistakes.

what is the best way - education wise - to become a psychiatric nurse practioner? i was an english major in college which means i took no stats or sciences (ok 1 biology class). what is the best route for me to get into this field? should i become a CNA first, then a nurse or...i live in new york city and have checked out some schools - PACE, Hunter, Stony Brook and 3 more. Also, along these lines, where would i go - internet wise - to find scholarships for nursing school for adults (versus those who are just graduating from high school or college). im 32 years old. thank you.
is there any financial aid or scholarships avaible for adult schools? i am 22 got laid off from my driving job a few months ago and have realized that if i don't want work at a fast food joint then i need to go back to school. i have found a medical assistant class through my local adult school that i want to take but its just under $2000 which is still a fair price compared to most colleges but i need some type of aid and am wondering what if anything i should be applying/looking for? any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Question about Financial Aid for College? I took some classes 25 years ago that are not related to my major. The school now tells me (after spending a lot of time in a Pre-Nursing major) that I have too many credits for a two year school and can't get financial aid. They did say I can appeal the decision. But I'm afraid to submit anything without getting advice because this is a one shot deal. Also, do you know anything about adult scholarships? I hear there are tons of ways to go for people in the nursing field but I don't know where to look.
How to acquire cash for college? I am currently a junior college student, I work two jobs, and like many of the thousands of students, completely broke. Recently my school has cut my scholarships amounts, I guess they lure you in with money, and once they hook you in, you pay for the remaining years, but that is besides the point. I barely scrapped enough money for my third year of colege, but all that money has come at a cost to me, regarding food, books, etc. I cant even afford my some of my college books, and it is affecting my grades. I dont qualify for loans, due to being a young adult without credit history. I find myself skipping meals, just to save money, and am afraid to use my card, because I know it is in the negative zone. Before I am called lazy, I have worked and worked, like I said, im working two jobs, worked full-time during the summer. All I want to know if there is any way to acquire living expenses, and college materials. A point in the right direction can help. Thank you.
How can I convince my mom too get a part time/ regular job? I want to make enough money before college for just in case. My mom says I have all the time before I start college, I'm trying to get some type of scholarship but if that back fires I want to save some money to pay for college and to visit a friend. I don't want my mom to pay for everything, and I want her to see me as an adult(although I'll be 17 when I start college, my birthday is late). How do I convince her that I want to make some money before college? I get a little bit of money from doing chores and about $10-20 every friday, but I need to make a lot more. Also, how do I save the money I earned? I don't want to waste my money! This question is actually how can I get my mom to let me get a job! It came out wrong.
Adults only: How old does a person have to be before you stop thinking of them as just a stupid kid...? ...or a naive, ignorant child person. I have been in college for more than a year now. I have my own job I live away from my parents, my parents don't pay one cent for my housing, living expenses, or education (because they said the best way to pay for college is a loan in my name, besides the scholarships I received for having a 4.0 all through high school). I'm also responsible with money and I'm a good student. My dad still calls me up and asks me how much money is in my checking account, how much money I make at work, what my grades are, he tells me that I'm not allowed to get married (which I wouldn't do at this point in my life anyway) or have a serious girlfriend, etc. So, the other question is how old do I have to be for him to stop sticking his nose in my business? If I asked him what he asked me he would hang up on me or kick me out of the house. I didn't mean that I live in his house...I have my own apartment. Sometimes come home for a visit on the weekend and that's usually when he talks to me about this kind of stuff. Sorry I didn't make that clearer.
What would you name my organization? I want to start what would primarily be a youth-serving organization (15-34?) serving both young adults who wish to pursue college and those who don’t. Three components of the organization would be: Bridge & career ladder programs to prepare those pursuing health care, engineering, education, IT and other needed careers in my area. Short-term paid internships, placements into jobs, education or advanced training, and follow-up services to young adults who are out of school and not working. Forgivable loans/scholarships I need a name. You have any ideas? Something identifiable, but funky.
do local private coleges offer scholarship. my local adult learning & leisure have offered me one.? i've don't know why, cos i've never mentioned anything about money problems to them i know main colleges and universities do offer scholarship, but i think you have to quality for one these are terms you need to qualify for scholarship:- study of excellence good attendance disability poor income record of achievement and so on those are AL&L'S guidelines and they said that i qualify in three out of five areas. should i accept and how much would they be prepared to offer. i've heard that scholarships or internships go up to £1000 basically i need to study for another year or so and i could get that amount. should i go for it.
What type of Doctor should I Be? Hello, I am in 12th grade and I am absolutely going to be Doctor. But I do not know what I should specialize in. I have a college picked out, and I have qualified for a great deal of scholarships. This is all I need to know to start my adult life. To Shana well I guess I envision myself being a family doctor, but at the same time I want to be so musch more than that.
How could I pay off my college loans? I'll be going to 10th grade next year butI was just thinking about how I will be able to pay off my College loans. I have a couple of ideas on what I would like to be. Maybe soemthing like a Lawyer, Doctor, or aPsychologist. But the only thing about a Lawyer is that I will have to go to law school, and then that will be even more money to pay off. I plan on buying a car when I'm 18-20. But, I don't know how I will be able to pay off my College loans when I become an adult and have my own real job. I'm sure that tuition will probably be at least 30 some G's. If not more. Unless I get a scholarship. How much money does a four year public College cost? four yeare private College? How long does it normally take to pay off College loans? How could I do this in less time than most people? Thanks for your help!
19 year old college student, should I take over my own finances? I am a student at the University of Florida. I am 19 years old, majoring in Industrial Engineering. I have my own apartment, here in Gainesville, and my family lives in South Florida (6 hours away). I have scholarships to pay for my school, but my mom pays for my car, and 1/2 of my rent. I recently started to feel like... I'm 19, soon I'll be 20, shouldn't I start working more hours and pay my own way? I'm an adult now, but I feel like a child. I have my own place, my own car, money in the bank, a boyfriend who stays with me all the time, and I'm pretty much "on my own". No one tells me what to do, when to go to bed, do my laundry. YET, since my mom pays my car and gives me 1/2 the money for rent, I feel like I'm still some little kid. I'm always reading on here about 18 and 19 year olds that are getting married or having kids and being "adults", and here I am living off of my parents. What do you guys think? I am a good student, pretty much get A's and some B's, so I do understand why my mom is willing to help me, I just don't feel "grown up". When I was 15 I looked at 20 as being a "real adult" and I feel like nothing more than a "child" who doesn't live at home.
my sim wont go to college!? ok my sim is a day away from growing up into an adult but when i click on the phone and hit college it just says applie for scholerships and view scholarships what is going on!?
College incoming freshman student here needs help financially.? Can someone please help me and give examples on how to convince financial aid officials that I need more assistance in college. I have good gpa's, it's just that during junior years I got a GPA of 2.92. What should I do, my college will cost me about $12,000 a year, and I really like this university. What should I say to convince them (fin. aid staff) besides my father having a stroke. I know I must be so convincing, So please, can anyone help me in writing this letter to them. (no I don't want a letter itself, just help me in format, things I should say to be more convincing etc.) Please this would really help me, ever since I was in junior high I was so eager to go college, but now when I am experiencing the difficulties of it, It's becoming a burden. Please scholar, genius students, adults, I really need your help. (Plus where is a place that I can search for scholarship that doesn't require writing essay,(English is my second language, and it is a challenge for me writing one
ill be 18 in Feb and want to live with my boyfriend during college. good or bad idea? I'll be 18 in Febuary and i'm thinking about moving in with my boyfriend of one year in July or august during my frshman year of college. i love my boyfriend with all my heart and get along with him perfectly, he's like my best friend. now i had always planned on dorming my first year in college but i want to be a dental hygienist and that course can only be taken at community colleges, which just happen to not have dorms. and as an uprising new young adult, i naturally do not want to live at home with my parents. so my choices are to either live with my boyfriend and go to school by him or suck it up,stay with my parents, go to the comm. college of this town, and live an hour away from my man. my bf is 21, he has a full scholarship to a university on grades (he's a genius), he's lived on his own for a while (so he's good at the whole budgeting thing and paying bills on time, which im afraid i might not be), my parents love and trust him and i love and trust him. what should i do
How can I help a 21 year old orphan? I recently found out that our wonderful babysitter has been an orphan since she was 14 years old. She has been out of the system and supporting herself since she was 18. She has a car, an apartment, and is attending the local community college but she is struggling to make ends meet. Are there any government programs? Are there any foundations? Scholarship programs? etc.... My husband and I have offered to take her in but she is an adult and wants to remain independent. Any ideas? Thank you so much!!!!
